August 20 Map & Perogies!

New vendor, MeeMee's Bites, will be attending their first market tomorrow! Homemade perogies are the main focus of MeeMee's Bites, but not all of them are traditional. Savoury perogies come in a variety of flavours; one stand-out is the "Fully Loaded" with cheddar, garlic, bacon and chives mixed in the creamy potato filling. For those of you who think a plain old perogy can't be beat, I dare you to try the dessert perogies. Yes, that's "dessert" and "perogies" in the same sentence. Choose from fillings such as Rhubarb, Apple Pie, and Pumpkin Cheesecake. That's not all; dessert perogies come with homemade sauces, such as caramel, chocolate or rum! (Photo: MeeMee's Bites)

Perogies (sweet or savoury) are sold frozen for you to take home and enjoy. Tomorrow, you can find MeeMee's Bites on the Plaza near the corner of 12th and Scarth. Let us know which 'rogies make it into your shopping bag!

J9's Tiny Farm looks so lush and green every time I walk by. Microgreens are easy on the eyes, but they're meant to be eaten! If you're looking for a real flavour boost, give the garlic chives a try. They'll need to grow for about a week after you take them home from the market, but will continue to grow back as you cut them. This means, if you're patient, you can buy one container of garlic chives and have them last as long as you'd like. Rinse before using and then use in hot or cold dishes; garlic chives can be consumed cooked or raw. I can't wait to add these to mashed potatoes!

Is Salsa Saturday a thing? I think it should be. If you're into making your own salsa, now is the time. The market is full of hot peppers (sweet or spicy), tomatoes, tomatillos, onions, garlic, and herbs. You could even make watermelon salsa! Personally, I like it when Jose makes my salsa. Salsa Fresca attends Saturday markets only (making Salsa Saturday even more appropriate). Salsa Fresca makes 6 different kinds of salsa, some red and some green, and one marinade. Jose prepares only 2 salsas per Saturday, so you'll have to make a point of visiting him every week to see what he's made. Jose likes heat – I'd recommend starting out with "Awesome for Chips Red" before making your way up to "Hot & Spicy"!
