Street Beets August 4th, 2015: Coneheads, Garlic, Map, and Where is Ada??

Coneheads

It's Martha the Conehead! Just kidding, it's just Martha. Belle Plaine Colony grows this conical cabbage called Caraflex, sometimes referred to as "Conehead Cabbage". It's sweeter and more tender than other varieties, and is great for making sauerkraut or kimchi. The leaves grow tightly together, making it easier to shred.

Garlic

Some love it, some hate it. Judging by the fact that it's been grown for 5000+ years, I think more of us love it. Historically, many medicinal qualities have been attributed to garlic, while only some have recently been found to have merit. Among many other applications, garlic can be used to treat high cholesterol and improve circulation. Find some Saskatchewan grown garlic at Don Mitchell's booth.

Where is Ada??

Some of you may have noticed that Ada hasn't been hanging around the Info Tent much anymore. Well, it's going to become even less frequent. Ada will be going on maternity leave starting...now, sort of. Who will you see instead? Someone you're used to seeing around the Market anyway - Dee! I'm back after a brief break from RFM, and I'm happy to see everyone again!
