Street Beets December 3rd, 2012: Outstanding Achievements of RFM Members!

Does our Market pick the very best applications? I remember when this application came in late 2009. I told the Board of the RFM flat out that I would be very upset if they said no! Thank goodness they didn’t for this Member became popular, offered a high quality product, and strives to promote local. Not only is one of the proprietors the winner of our Saskatoon Pie Eating Contest (he’s so proud by the way, he had the flu), winners of the Young Farmer’s Award for Saskatchewan, winner of numerous Golds, Silvers, and Bronzes in their field, Living Sky Winery has won the 2012 Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers Award. Congratulations to Vance Lester and Susan Echlin! From field to wine glass you are the toast of the Regina Farmers’ Market. I am so amazed at our Market Members. Excellent food, winning awards across Canada, friendly, and good people. They deserve so much credit and work so hard. Today will be so full that I am going to report on who is not attending. Hi Low Angus, Gladys Friesen, and Darlene Kowalyk will not be coming today. Pusch Brothers, Howland’s Honey, Leprechaun Farms (maple syrup), Pixiewinkle Jewlery, and Gail McIlwrick (books and blankets) will be coming back in after short hiatuses.

Today is the launch of a new product at the Market. Cajeta is a caramel sauce product made from Goat’s milk. It is a Mexican confection like a thick syrup that is made by caramelizing the goat’s milk. This is down by slowly cooking it down until it is a gorgeous light brown color and slightly thick. It is used in traditional Mexican desserts, poured over crepes which soak it in, and can be used over ice cream. I can think of tonnes of desserts it can be used in. Cejata will be offered in samples at the Salayview Farms booth. They are also offering yogurt, chevre, and feta. When you think about it those goats make lots of product that are good for you and taste delicious!

Hope to see you today at 2900 13th Avenue, 9:30 to 1:30. We will be running Markets until December 22nd. Give the give of local this year and give the gift of delicious! Ada
