Outdoor Farmers' Market

City Square Plaza

RFM News: June 16, 2018

Are you a locavore? You may be one and you don't know it! Locavores seek to consume food that is grown or raised locally for a variety of reasons. Locavores love the Regina Farmers' Market (and we love them!) because everything at our market is made, baked, grown, or designed right here in Saskatchewan.

Though our next few blog posts, we're going to explore the ways in which local eating is a great choice for the earth, the local economy, the community, and your health.

Reason #1 to Eat Local: Healthy and Nutritious High-Quality Food

Food bought at the Regina Farmers' Market is fresher and may even be more nutritious than most storebought items. We know that once produce is harvested it begins to lose nutrients over time. Produce that spends less time in transit from farm to plate will lose fewer nutrients along the way. The produce sold at our market may have been harvested mere hours before finding its way into your life. Now that's fresh!

At the Regina Farmers' Market, you will discover new and interesting foods of all varieties. During our markets, City Square Plaza is a vibrant hub of local food producers and local food lovers alike. You'll find us there every Wednesday and Saturday from 9am-1pm. Head downtown and rub elbows with your fellow locavores!

New Food Truck: Queen City Grill

We've got a brand new food truck starting at tomorrow's market with a full menu of mouthwatering items. Queen City Grill will begin attending the Regina Farmers' Market most Saturdays starting on June 16.

You may recognize the faces greeting you from the truck's window. Armenian and Israeli Bakers (AKA Sisters' Cakes) have been vendors at our market since 2011. They have recently expanded their operations to include a food truck.

They'll be serving up kebabs, falafels, and shawarma (in pita or lafa). Your Saturday lunch plans are now taken care of; you're welcome. 😎 Find them tomorrow on City Square Plaza.
