Regina Farmers' Market Tomato Contest Returns for Year 3!

Get ready to show off your tomatoes, your creativity, and your tomato spirit! The Regina Farmers’ Market Tomato Festival Contest is back for its third year!

This year’s Tomato Festival will be held August 1, 9am-2pm at the Legislative Building/Queen Elizabeth II Gardens. Featuring giant tomatoes, tiny tomatoes, tomato-inspired treats and tomato inspired art, this year’s contest lineup is bigger and brighter than ever. Whether you’re a vendor, shopper, tomato enthusiast or gardener, there’s a contest for everyone!

Contests are open for vendors and the public to participate in. Enter your tomatoes for the chance to win prizes and bragging rights. Read on for more information on what this year’s contest has in store.

Tomato Showcase

Open to vendors and the public.

The Tomato Showcase celebrates the beauty of tomatoes big and small, and the growing skills of everyone who participates! Entries for most contests in this category will be displayed and voted on by the public via ballots at the RFM Information Booth between 9:30am and 12:30pm.

Entries for the Largest Tomato category can be weighed at the RFM Info Booth at any farmers’ market between August 1, and September 5.

- Tiniest Tomato (judged by weight)

- Largest Tomato (judged by weight)

- Open to vendors and the public

- One entry per category, per person/vendor

- Tomatoes must be dropped off at the RFM Information Booth by 9:30am*

Vendor participation only.

This category celebrates all things tomato-inspired, from delicious creations to eye-catching displays and festival spirit. Some categories will be voted on by the public, others by RFM staff and volunteers.

- Best Tomato-Themed Edible Product - judged by the public

- Best Tomato-Themed Non-Edible Product - judged by the public

- Best Tomato-Themed Display- judged by RFM Staff and Volunteers

- Best Dressed Vendor - judged by RFM Staff and Volunteers

- Open to vendors only.

- Each vendor may submit up to 1 item for the Best Tomato-Themed Edible Product contest.

- Each vendor may submit up to 1 item for the Best Tomato-Themed Non-Edible Product contest.

- Tomato-themed products must be dropped off at the RFM Info booth by 9:30am.

- Each contest in this category will be judged based on creativity and festival spirit.

Vendor and public participation.

Our panel of judges will rank tomatoes based on taste, texture, juice, and looks. Each category in this section will feature both a 1st Place prize and a Runner-Up prize.

- Best Cherry Tomato (vendors only)

- Best Large Tomato (vendors only)

- Best Homegrown Tomato (public only)

- Each vendor may submit up to 2 tomatoes for the Best Cherry Tomato contest.

- Each vendor may submit up to 2 tomatoes for the Best Large Tomato contest.

- Each member of the public may submit 1 tomato for the Best Homegrown Tomato contest.

- Judging will focus on taste, texture, juice, and looks.

This year we are introducing two new tomato themed games! Stop by the Regina Farmers’ Market Information Booth to learn more.

Think you can guess the weight of our tiny tomato? Submit your guess between 9:30am and 12:30pm for a chance to win! This contest is open to vendors and the public.

We are so excited to announce that this year’s festival will feature an art installation created by Leslie Charlton of FulFibre. Dress up in your best tomato-themed outfit, snap a photo in front of the artwork, tag us on Instagram, and you’ll be entered into a randomized prize draw.

- Contest entries can be dropped off at the Regina Farmers’ Market Information Booth during the festival before 9:30am unless otherwise noted.

- Entries for the Largest Tomato category can be weighed at the RFM Information Booth at any farmers’ market between August 1, and September 5.

- Public voting will take place between 9:30am and 12:30pm, with ballots available at the Regina Farmers’ Market Information Booth.

- Early drop-offs are encouraged to maximize voting time.

- Winners will be announced on stage at 1:30pm.

- All entries must be picked up by 2:00pm. Unclaimed entries will be donated to the YWCA Regina through our Nutrition Coupon Program.
