July 2 Map & Cherries!
I’ve been asked the same two questions repeatedly for the last 2 weeks, the first, “when will there be saskatoon berries?” and the second, “when will the fruit truck be here?” As for the berries, I can tell you that Rocky Acres Orchard will have some on July 9. In response to the second question, I can finally say, “the fruit truck will be here TOMORROW!” Kim’s Fresh Fruit has made it from BC to SK another year, and with them they’ve brought red cherries, rainier cherries and apricots, to start.
Martha’s Garden, a lovely vendor with unusual and heirloom vegetables, will be beginning her RFM season tomorrow. Her table will be filled with bunches of pea tendrils, parsley pea, dill, and chives; packages of pea shoots, purple radish pods, and black Hungarian peppers; and mixed greens with red orach, fava bean greens, baby kale, baby beet greens, and radish greens. Purple peas (pictured) will be ready soon.
New vendor, Zach of ZMZ Smithing, is a young person keeping an age-old technique alive. Fascinated by both blacksmithing and cooking, Zach decided that the skill of knife making would be a natural fit. All knives are made from recycled high carbon steel (previously saw blades or rasps). The wooden handles are sourced from Saskatchewan trees surrounding Zach’s home. A blacksmith vendor is a first for RFM, and we’re quite pleased with Zach’s craftsmanship. Please welcome ZMZ Smithing to RFM! (Photo: ZMZ Smithing)
Fishley Farms, Going with the Grain, Hi Low Angus, Inspired by Beads, and Ponderosa Alpaca are back at market tomorrow. Food trucks: Prairie Smoke & Spice BBQ and Mr. Spudd's Poutinerie. The Vendor LIST shows all vendors in attendance tomorrow and the Market MAP shows where you can find them.
REMINDER: Market Under the Stars is this Thursday, July 7! Click HERE for everything you need to know, including the map, Food Tasting Menu and entertainment schedule.
See you at market!
