Seasons of RFM

When RFM wakes from the winter break and the outdoor markets begin, one might expect to find greenhouse tomatoes and cucumbers, green leafy lettuce and spicy radishes. Soon after, piles of tender new potatoes and aromatic dill can be found on market tables. Summer has reached its peak when Saskatoon berries are ready for picking and ears of corn are filling out.

We’ve now arrived at mid-September, with autumn merely days away. A glance down City Square Plaza during RFM floods the eye with hues of orange, red and yellow, rather than the vibrant green of the previous month.

The change in colour reflects the arrival of portly pumpkins and other squashes, as well as parsnips, carrots and September Ruby apples. To the pumpkin pie lovers out there, consider this your formal notice.

Cheers to local, seasonal goodness.
