Street Beets Sept. 16th, 2015: Market Map, Brussels Sprouts & Pumpkin Pie

Recently, I've been amazed at the number of social media posts by our customers on the topic of Brussels sprouts. I'm amazed because I thought Brussels sprouts were still among the group of green veggies that seem to be generally disliked. And yet, photos of wide-smiling customers clutching stalks of Brussels sprouts I would not consider rare.

Maybe that's the basis for attraction -- the fact that Brussels sprouts grow on thick stalks measuring anywhere from 24" to 48" tall (roughly). Each of these stalks can produce around 2lbs of Brussels sprouts. Usually, we see the little cabbage-like buds already removed from the stalk, and most of us have no idea it was ever there. Spring Creek Gardens, however, prefers to sell the entire stalk, Brussels sprouts and all. I'd say this decision is really working well for them!

Pumpkins have arrived!! Which means Fall is just around the corner. More importantly, so is pumpkin pie! I encourage you to pre-order from any of the following bakers to ensure you get exactly the pie you want.

Sharon's Pies & More, Mila's, Yorkton Bakers, Keith's Plants & Baking, Lorraine's Kitchen, Ally's Specialty Baking, and The Cookie Lady will soon have pumpkin pie available. For gluten-friendly or diabetic pies, see Ally's Specialty Baking. For a twist on the traditional, try The Cookie Lady's pumpkin latte pie. Sharon's Pies & More and The Flour Shoppe will have pumpkin tarts. Happy eating!

CLICK HERE to see the Market Map and which vendors will be on the Plaza tomorrow. For food trucks, we'll have: Nacho Fiesta, Mr. Spudd's Poutinerie, Bon Burger, Crave, and Prairie Smoke. The Yorkton Bakers and Golden Prairie Wild Boar are not attending. Hi Low Angus and Rusty's Wild Rice will be there.

It's getting to be that time of year when we say goodbye to summer-only vendors. It will be the last Market for Crave and Thrive Juice Co., so make sure something from each of them is included in your lunch on the Plaza! As you can see by the map, we will still have a full Plaza despite a few missing vendors. Remember, the Market is outdoors until Oct. 10th, and we move indoors on Oct. 17th (Saturdays only) at 2065 Hamilton St.

See you at Market,

Dee
