This Week at the RFM (Wed July 10, Thurs July 11 & Sat July 13)

Thank you to everyone who joined us at our first Summer Evening Market of the season last week!

We'll be doing it all again this week! Find us on City Square Plaza on Wednesday, July 10 and Saturday, July 13 from 9 am to 1 pm. PLUS, visit us at Summer Evening Market on Thursday, July 11, from 4 to 9 pm (and EVERY Thursday evening until the end of August)!

PRO TIP: at this time of year we re-jig the market map to make room for all the veggie producers that arrive near the beginning of July. So make sure to check the Market Map carefully for your favourite vendors, as they may have moved! OR, stop by the RFM Information Booth and we'll be sure to point you in the right direction.

What's in season right now (and where can I find it)?

At this point in the season, there are new and exciting seasonal products to discover at every single market! This week, keep your eyes peeled for:

Strawberries - look for these luscious local berries this week at Southland Colony (pictured above, Wed & Sat). You may also start to find them at Over the Hill Orchards (Wed & Sat) and Heliotrope Farms (Wed & Sat).

Baby potatoes - the earliest potatoes are the most exciting, and you can find them this week at Heliotrope Farms (pictured above) and Spring Creek Gardens

Cauliflower - find some beauties at Heliotrope Farms (pictured above) and Southland Colony.

Saskatoons... almost! Saskatoon season is a little behind, and we're waiting with baited breath for updates about fresh berries at market! You might luck out this week at Over the Hill Orchards; otherwise, find frozen Saskatoons at Loon Creek's first market on Wednesday, July 10 (which will hopefully be followed by fresh berries at market on Saturday--stay tuned!).

Okra!? We usually think of this as a southern specialty. But check out Rocky Acres Orchard (pictured below) for this Sask-grown delicacy! Need some recipe inspiration? Look no further

Customer Reward (Wed July 10) - Going with the Grain

There are many wonderful bakers at the RFM, but only one who will cheerfully urge you to “try some bread, baked it fresh.” Larry of Going with the Grain (a.k.a. Larry the Bread Guy or The Vendor with the Buns) first started with a cart and just two feet of space at the RFM in 2012.

Fast-forward seven years and you can now find Larry (pictured above) with much more than two feet of booth space – he’s got an entire food truck (Larry's Bread Machine) to whip up all kinds of bread, buns, pastries, muffins, and lunch specials in. And in true Larry fashion, most menu items incorporate a pun or two (check out Going with the Grain’s Facebook page for some punny goodness). There are also vegan options available at the food truck – including the cinnamon rolls.

Catch Larry in his bread machine at most outdoor markets this season, and “have an amazing day.” And if you've collected 20+ punches on your RFM Customer Reward card (powered by the Flok app), redeem them with Larry on Wednesday, July 10 for $5 off any order... OR just say "Get a lunch special for $2 or a bagel and coffee for $1"!

Summer Evening Markets - important updates you need!

Thank you to everyone that joined us last Thursday for our FIRST Summer Evening Market of the season! It went off without a hitch... but that doesn't mean that we don't want to do everything we can to make your experience even better! Starting this week, we're making a few changes... so help us spread the word!

EXTENDED HOURS! Closing up shop at 8pm felt just a little early last week, so starting this week, Summer Evening Market hours will be extended! We'll be running from 4pm to 9pm every Thursday, giving you even more time to enjoy local food, drink, music and more every week this summer!

CHEAPER DRINKS! You spoke and we listened. Visit our licensed area this week and enjoy sample-sized drinks from our stable of local craft alcohol producers... for less money!

• YOGA IN THE PARK! Join Zenhouse Productions each Thursday at 7pm for Sound Off Yoga in the park. Zenhouse will lead you through an all-levels gentle vinyasa flow, donation-based yoga class with live DJ and the use of our wireless LED headset system. All audio will be transmitted simultaneously through the headsets to give you clear instruction, limited outside noise distraction and an intimate sound and body experience all in the heart of our beautiful downtown. Donations ($5 min) will go to Wildlife Rehabilitation Society of Saskatchewan.

FULL MUSIC LINE-UP! We finally have our artist line-up confirmed for the rest of our Summer Evening Markets. THIS THURSDAY, check out The Stubble Jumpers, featuring Kris Craig and Brian Templeton in two high energy rockabilly sets. Then mark your calendars for the following great live (and FREE) sets every Thursday on the Plaza Stage:

July 18 - Pop-Country singer-songwriter Justine Sletten (Hazlet SK); a rural Sask gal who's turning heads in the country music world.

July 25 - MasterChef Canada finalist and hometown food hero Josh Miller will be battling RFM chefs in a live food war of the ages!

Aug 1 - Resonance Duo (Regina SK), featuring the vocals of Christie-Anne Blondeau and Fred Foerster on acoustic bass, is guaranteed to surprise and delight with their interpretations of jazz, pop and soul music with a twist.

Aug 8 - Folk fanatic and singer/songwriter Damase Elis (Calgary AB)

Aug 15Ava Wild (Regina SK). With a honey sweet voice, Ava combines folk roots and acoustic pop with embellishments of jazz and old country.

Aug 22 - Marentin Fehr (Saskatoon SK). An emerging singer-songwriter from small town Sask, Marentin's music ranges from dreamy acoustic numbers, to uplifting pop tunes and punchy indie rock.

Aug 29 - Marshall Burns (Regina SK). Well-known as a member of Rah Rah, Marshall will take to the Plaza Stage in his solo singer-songwriter form.

Customer Reward (Thurs July 11) – Klassic Kulfi

Klassic Kulfi is a new vendor bringing some international flair to the RFM. Run by Attia and her husband Muhammad, and using a recipe passed down to Attia from mum Samina, Klassic is bringing a sweet Pakistani treat to Saskatchewan. Kulfi is a traditional Pakistani ice cream, similar to Western ice cream in taste and appearance but has a denser and creamier texture. Klassic's Kulfi is hand-made and hand-mixed with natural products and no preservatives or chemicals. They also source fresh ingredients for their five flavours, which include pistachio and coconut.

A must-try for the foodie and non-foodie alike, Klassic Kulfi has been a hit with market customers and a sweet addition to the RFM vendor family. With outdoor markets starting soon and summer on the way, we foresee some tasty times ahead for Klassic Kulfi.

Bonus - kulfi takes longer to melt, so it will last during those July and August markets! And if you've collected 20+ punches on your RFM Customer Reward card (powered by the Flok app), redeem them at Klassic Kulfi on at the Summer Evening Market on Thursday, July 11 for 3 free kulfi- any flavour - $9 value!

Back in after a break

This week we're looking forward to seeing a few favourite vendors (new and old) that we haven't seen in a while. Look for:

Carelebeads (July 10 and July 13) - Handmade lampwork beads, including pens, letter openers, styluses, magnifying glasses, jelly spoons, canape knives, pickle forks, wine stoppers and charms, bookmarks, key finders and keychains, pie/cake servers, olive and salsa spoons, seam rippers, serving spoons, bracelet helpers, fan pulls, cake testers, and cheese knives!

Dressed by Les (July 10) - Handmade women's and children's clothing and accessories.

Prairie & Ivy Studio (July 10) - Handmade macramé items, including plant holders and much more!

Customer Reward (Sat July 13) – Sweet Tree Preserves

There are many kinds of jams and jellies to be found at the RFM, but you’ll only find one kind claiming to be “not your grandma’s jam.” This claim comes from Sweet Tree, who have been bringing their uniquely flavo

ured jams and jellies to market since 2017.

Owned by Lindsay Ward, Sweet Tree is all about a local and handcrafted product. They use honey instead of sugar as a sweetener and create their jams small-batch. And when we say uniquely flavoured, we mean it – Sweet Tree’s flavour selection ranges from Whiskey Peach to Strawberry Basil to Cherry Rhubarb. They also make a honey chocolate syrup that is seriously addictive.

Jam out with Sweet Tree at most markets this season! And if you've collected 20+ punched on your RFM Customer Reward card (powered by the Flok app), redeem them at Sweet Tree on Saturday, July 13 for a FREE 100ml jar of jam - any flavour ($6 value).
