What's In Season Right Now (And Where Can I Find It)?

We are officially at the height of our summer season, and there is no end to the amazing seasonal produce that you can find at the farmers' market this right now!

Saskatoons - Nothing says Saskatchewan more than a pail of fresh-picked Saskatoons (pictured top of page)! With sub-optimal Saskatoon growing weather this spring, you've had to be patient... but the wait it finally over. Over the next few weeks you will find fresh (and frozen) Saskatoons from a variety of growers including Loon Creek, Rocky Acres Orchard, and Country Breeze Farms.

PRO TIP #1: avoid disappointment by coming early!

PRO TIP #2: don't miss out on the other market treats made with the fresh Saskatoon harvest! Visit The Cookie Lady for fresh Saskatoon pies at Summer Evening Market this Thursday, and The Very Berry Bun Company for tasty baked treats on Wednesday this week.

Apricots - We are also in the midst of apricot season! Visit Kim's Fresh Fruit (on Wednesday, Thursday AND Saturday this week) for delicious BC-grown apricots.

ALL THE VEGGIES!!! - if you can grow it in Saskatchewan, you'll probably find it at the farmers' market right now! ALL our major veggie growers are now attending market regularly, and new seasonal produce will start appearing at each and every market for the rest of the season!

Customer reward (July 17): Queen City Grill

Are you a fan of falafel? Do you swoon over shawarma? You can get both dishes (and more) at Queen City Grill (pictured here), one of the RFM’s newer food trucks. In operation for about a year, Queen City Grill has been bringing their own take on classic Israeli dishes to our taste buds since last summer.

If some of the faces in the truck look a little familiar, it’s because they are – owner Suzanna Badalian runs the truck with her husband Tom Liverant, while her sister Irina runs their market booth Sisters’ Cake. Suzanna and Irina started Sisters’ Cake in 2011 and then expanded to include the food truck in 2018. According to Suzanna, both the food truck and the booth are entirely a family affair; everyone pitches in to help.

Swing by Queen City Grill next time you have a craving for kebabs or if you’re looking to broaden your international food tastes! And if you've collected 20+ punches on your RFM Customer Reward card (powered by the Flok app), cash them in on Wednesday July 17 for a FREE falafel platter (valued at $8)!

This Week at Summer Evening Market

Our next Summer Evening Market takes place this Thursday from 4 to 9 pm. Here's what you can expect:

• Two sets by SK born and raised country-pop artist Justine Sletten (Plaza Stage, 5-7 pm).

• Sound Off Yoga in the park (northeast quadrant of Victoria Park, 7-8 pm). Zenhouse Productions will lead you through an all levels gentle vinyasa flow yoga class, featuring a live DJ and the use of their wireless LED headset system. By donation (min. $5) with this week's proceeds going to YWCA Regina.

Free Salsa lessons and dancing from 7-9 pm on the Plaza Stage.

Lots of supper, dessert, and drink options to choose from, including craft alcohol samples in our licensed area, and exclusive menu items available ONLY at Summer Evening Markets (like this More Than Triple Chocolate Cheesecake by The Cookie Lady)!

Local grocery and gift shopping, including fresh fruits and veggies, prepared foods, handmade jewelry, and lots more!

Customer Reward (July 18) - Good Morning Spring Rolls

New to the RFM this year, Good Morning Springrolls has been bringing their tasty spring rolls to market-goers for the past five months. Their vegetarian spring rolls have been noted by customers as an easy way to get veggies into their kids – and if it’s kid-approved you know it’s good.

Behind it all is owner Lydia Nguyen, whose passion for cooking and baking and her desire to feed her community with healthy and authentic food is what prompted her to start the business this year. She prepares the spring rolls by hand, one roll at a time, and sources fresh local veggies for the filling. Food is her passion, and she has big dreams for the future of Good Morning Springrolls.

Try a spring roll at your next market outing – “The test is in the taste!”

PRO TIP: At regular daytime markets, Good Morning Springrolls are generally only available frozen. But be sure to try them piping hot on Thursday evenings at Summer Evening Markets! AND, if you've collected 20+ punches on your RFM Customer Reward punch card (powered by the Flok app), you can redeem them at Summer Evening Market this Thursday, July 18 for 2 free ready-to-eat Spring Rolls (while quantities last).

Customer Reward (July 20) - The Pupcake Bakery

We here at the RFM like to make sure we cater to all tastes – and that includes the tastes of our four-legged friends as well. One of the RFM’s pet vendors, The Pupcake Bakery, is coming up on a decade of a mission to “put a smile on your dog’s face and a wag in their tail.”

Pupcake is a family-run home business, and owners Donna and Glen Reif have been providing home-baked treats for man’s best friend at market since 2009. They make a variety of treats and goodies, such as Peanut Butter Smackers and Barley Barkers, without use of preservatives. Additionally, all ‘pawducts’ are made with human-grade ingredients.

Great pets deserve great treats – bring your pooch to Pupcake’s booth at your next market! AND, if you've collected 20+ punches on your RFM Customer Reward punch card (powered by the Flok app), you can redeem them this Saturday July 20 for your choice of Large bag of Peanut Butter Smackers, Pawtastic Chicken Paws, or Piglets!
